We love designing and making Ivy Organic Cotton Dress with pink waves in our Sydney studio. It uses an organic cotton twill. In sum, this fabric is soft yet very durable. It can last for more generations if you pass it down.
Ivy Organic Cotton Dress has two parts, a semi fitting bodice that has V neckline and a twirly skirt part. The skirt is under the knee length, so mid length. The front has light wooden buttons all the way down. The design has two side pockets that are large enough for all the treasure that kids love to carry around. These pockets are featuring neat French seam. Along the front of the dress where we make buttonholes and sew buttons. Moreover, we use interfacing fabric which gives more strength to any fabric. This way buttonholes stay straight and does not stretch. Also, it gives an extra support on the other side where we sew buttons.
The skirt gathers into the waistline, and it is beautiful twirly style as kids love spinning. Additionally, this extra length is great to extend wearability of this dress to a more that one season as kids grow fast. Furthermore, the bodice is semi fitting so there is room for a growth spurt as well.
Before cutting out the dress parts we always prewash all materials so prevent any shrinking. To take care of your handmade item the best is to wash in a lukewarm or cold water. Hot iron with steam on is good for cotton fabric.
